On-line Training

Mainstreaming Environment in Development Co-Operation - On-line training

Name: Environmental Integration in EC Development Co-operation: An Introduction - On-line training
Code of the course on syslog: AIDCO ENV ONLINE
Proposed by: EuropeAid
Number of participants for each session: 35
Course Language: English, French

Objective

Participants are more motivated to address the environmental dimension (including climate change-related aspects) in development co-operation interventions. They are:

  • more aware of the links between environment and development;
  • more aware of how the environment relates to their area of work/cooperation sector;
  • they get an overview of the main environmental integration tools in relation to the various phases of the cycle of operations and main aid delivery methods.

Participation in this course is a pre-requisite for participation in the more advanced, 3-day seminar entitled "Environmental Integration in EC Development Co-operation: Tools and Methods for the Cycle of Operations".

Target audience

Staff involved in the programming and/or management of EC development co-operation activities, in the Commission itself (in particular Delegation staff) as well as in partner organisations.

Contents

  • Concepts and definitions. Rationale for environmental and climate change integration in development co-operation
  • Links with the various sectors of intervention
  • The policy context
  • Environmental integration in the cycle of operations (overview)

Note that this course is an on-line version of what was formerly known as “module A” of the environmental integration course series. The course alternates presentations, exercises and participatory activities by means of a discussion forum, so as to allow exchanges between participants; it also includes evaluation tests.

Duration

Expect to dedicate 5 to 6 hours to the course over the planned duration of the on-line session.
Technically, participation requires:

  • an internet connection with a “reasonable” bandwidth;
  • installation of Adobe Flash Player ® (can be downloaded free of charge);
  • if possible, installation of Windows Media Player ® (not absolutely necessary).

Documentation - Hand-outs

Annotated slides, the EC Environmental Integration Handbook and other supporting documents can be downloaded from e-Campus or from other web sources.
